We are heartened by the amazing post-election love, support, and solidarity this month. Despite the jitters felt by American-Muslims across the country, it is messages like this that make us proud that we live, work, and pray in Salinas.
With the change in Daylight Savings Times (DST), we now begin the November-March schedule for Jum’ah prayers. The Friday Khutbu (Islamic sermon) will now begin at 12:20 p.m. and the congregational prayers start at 12:50 p.m.
The Islamic Community of Salinas will be celebrating Eid Al Adha on Monday, Sept. 12. Takbeerat at the masjid will begin at 8 a.m., and salah will be held at 8:30 a.m. insha'Allah. Following the Eid prayers, there will be a light breakfast at the masjid.
The Eid al-Adha date is also in accordance with the Hajj authorities announcement of the Day of Arafah (the main day of Hajj) which is on Sunday, September 11.
It is mustahabb (highly recommended) for those who are not pilgrims to fast on the Day of Arafah. The Prophet (peace be upon him) was asked about fasting on the day of 'Arafah. He said: "It expiates the sins (minor) of the past year and the coming year." [Muslim]
