With the change in Daylight Savings Time, the first azaan and Khutbu (Islamic bayaan sermon) in Arabic (with translation) is at 1:20 p.m. The service ends with congregational prayers at about 1:50 p.m.
With the change in Daylight Savings Times, we now begin the November-March schedule for Jum’ah prayers. The Friday Khutbu (Islamic sermon) will now begin at 12:20 p.m. and the congregational prayers start at 12:50 p.m.
The Islamic Community of Salinas will be celebrating Eid Al Adha this Thursday, Sept. 24th. Takbeer at the masjid will begin at 8:00 am, and salah will be held at 8:30 am insha'Allah.
Following the Eid prayers, there will be a light breakfast at the masjid.
We have also arranged an Eid celebration on Thursday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Shorewood Park (940 N Main St., Salinas, CA 93901). We will a BBQ lunch and there will be jumpers for children.
The Eid al-Adha date is also in accordance with the Hajj authorities announcement of the Day of Arafah (the main day of Hajj) which is on Wednesday, September 23.
It is mustahabb (highly recommended) for those who are not pilgrims to fast on the Day of Arafah. The Prophet (peace be upon him) was asked about fasting on the day of 'Arafah. He said: "It expiates the sins (minor) of the past year and the coming year." [Muslim]
